News on LB39

A few pictures of today's hearing on LB39. We had a good turn out in support of the bill.

Nobody showed up to oppose the bill, but a few individuals who don't like bicycles have emailed the Senator Smith opposing the bill.

What can you do?
Please continue to email Senator Smith or any of the senators on the Transportation Committee. jsmith@leg.ne.gov

If the bill makes it out of committee, then we will need to email all senators to support the bill as it is debated on the Senate floor.

We can't say enough about Senator Rick Kolowski for Legislature support and Everyone that testified today. THANK YOU!

 

 

January Notes -

We talked about the need to attend a OTD meeting to form contacts for getting some support from volunteers, contact info for the trophies and t-shirts.  Since then Sounds like we need to contact Bill Schlaepfer and attend a meeting to see what's going on.

Jerseys will have more info on next meeting.  Hopefully I'll have design and pricing info next meeting.  Tshirt order is just about ready to go in.  We have 18 signed up for orders and about half of those are paid.

2015 sounds like a busy year for events.  Feb 1st is sign up for the
Laramie Enduro.  The Oklahoma Freewheel is June 7th - 13th more info here - http://www.okfreewheel.com/ 

The Numb ride June 27th to July 1st.  Sounds like a great ride. http://www.numbride.org/

I'm sure there's more but these are the events we discussed.

We talked about taking Jon H. up on his training camp.  Some questions were raised about if it was a five separate days or five days in a row?

We discussed LB39 and what it does for cyclists and what we can do to help out.

We did a creative grab for ideas on the down town bike racks.  A lot of great ideas came up.  Dead line for submissions are Feb. 13th.  Submit all ideas to
afolck@scottsbluff.org.

Katie Bradshaw had a discussion with some city planners and they want our info on what routes we take and don't take when we are riding around town.  Is there a street that you take to get from point A to B?  Why do you take that street?  Please bring all this info to the next meeting to be collected.

Next meeting is Febuary 21st @ 4pm at Caddies.

Recap on Oregon Trial Days....

With OT Days over I thought I'd share some things from the weekend.  First off the Hillclimb was great.  Turn out was a little off from last year.  Down 8-10 riders or so.  Everything went off with out a hitch.  Things to improve upon for next year are as follows -

Clearly marked Finish line.

At least three people at the top with pen and paper writing down times.

Then some one communicating that down.

Use a computer and spread sheet.

Promote Promote Promote.

The parade was fun and a great way to get some exposure.  I waned to pass on a huge thank you to all who waited and rode in the parade.  Things to do differently for next year -

Banners on Trailers.

Candy with our clubs web address on it.

More riders.

Meeting following the parade was great.  Thanks Allison for hosting and grilling up some great food for all of us.  We discussed the hillclimb and parade which have already been discussed.  Next thing was setting a time for the Dirk Bowman Memorial ride.  For those of you who didn't know Dirk he was a very avid cyclist in the area who passed recently while riding.  We have a pretty good idea of the route he usually took.  It's a nice 20mile ride on mixed dirt and pavement.  The date for the ride will be September 6th.  Time is still to be discussed.  Next up was a Cancer ride.  Also to be done in the fall.  This one will be for everyone of all ages.  More to come as things get figured out.  What wasn't discussed was time for our August meeting.  I'm good with either the 9th or 16th.  What's better for everyone?  Please let me know.

Contact Parade committee about being in the parade for OTD.

Get as many people from the club to the hillclimb to participate or help run it as possible.

Every Tuesday night till the end of summer, at 6:30pm there will be a ride leaving from the YMCA. Distance and route to be determined by the people that show up. You asked for it...here it is. A weekly fun ride. So go have fun!

The next meeting is on the 19th of July.

I had wanted to ride BRAN this year.  However life has come along and thrown it's things about and I'll miss it again this year.  How about you?  are you doing or have you done BRAN?

If you go to the link and have a look you'll see where Nebraska is in #45th.  That's pretty sad.  Hopefully there is something that we as a club can do about this.  So let's make it to the next meeting, challenge that person to finally ride to work, make a group ride or make up a group ride.  Lets get out there and show people that cycling is becoming a thing in Nebraska.
